Azolla Unit

A small scale Azolla unit of size 16 m2 have been established at KVK, Undi as a demonstration unit for the farming community and is producing 7 quintals of Azolla annually to demonstrate the usage of azolla for application in paddy fields as it is used as a nitrogen-rich biofertilizer and weed suppressant thereby it increases the productivity of rice. Utilisation of Azolla as a bio-fertilizer can be taken up as entrepreneurship opportunity. It is recommended that 250-375 kg -fresh weight of Azolla is required for one hectare of rice crop, which can supply around 30 kg N/ ha. Azolla can also be used as feed for cattle and poultry.
